Sooner or later you'll need to undelete a file that you

mistakenly sent to the Recycle Bin. There are probably quite a

few files and folders residing there, so how do you find the one

you want to return to its previous location on your hard drive?

Here are a few methods you can employ, depending on certain file

criteria. First, open the Recycle Bin.

If you know when you got rid of the file, one method you can use

to locate the missing file is to switch to Detail view (choose

View | Details) and then sort the files by the date you moved

them to the Recycle Bin. You can do this by clicking on the Date

Deleted column heading. If you're looking for a graphic file, you

can switch to Thumbnail view (choose View | Thumbnails). Most

graphics will preview this way, and you can be sure to identify

and restore the right file quickly and easily.

But what if you're looking to recover an entire folder from the

Recycle Bin and you can't remember its name, but you do remember

what files it contains? Simply hover your mouse pointer over the

folder in the Recycle Bin. A popup message alerts you to the

names of the first few files in the folder, as well as the

original location and the total folder size. This is a lot easier

than restoring each folder, checking it, and then deleting it

again until you find the right one.
