Chinese Domain Name Scams
Earlier today I had an email from an Asian domain name registrar informing me that there was a Chinese company applying for registration of the name ‘InternetFixes’ (That one is mine) as their internet trademark.
In short, they wanted to offer me the chance to purchase various .cn domain names before it was too late.
At first glance this seemed like a legitimate email, with a business address and URL at the bottom. But as I looked into it deeper, I began to notice things that didn’t add up.
The URL at the bottom of the email: ‘www.gytrademark.com’ redirects to ‘www.rg-net.org’ and ‘YGNetwork’, which just so happens to be well known as a scam company.
When I Googled the web address and email ‘email@example.com’ I found loads of instances of this exact scam being used on other business owners and webmasters. Literally, the exact same text and contact name that I saw in my email.
So ALWAYS research emails before replying!
And don’t reply to anything from ‘gytrademark.com’ or ‘yg-networks.com’ because it’s a big fat scam.
