As an example:
In the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} key remove the GEARAspiWDM entry in the UpperFilters value.

When you click on the key in the left the UpperFilters value appears in the right. Delete the GEARAspiWDM entry there. :D

When you click on the {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} key in the left hand column you will see an UpperFilter value in the right column. Double click on it and a window will open with the GEARAspiWDM value in it. Clear that value and select OK.

Repeat this process with all and reboot.

Hi, and once again I have a list of questions (no particular order) to try to understand your situation a bit more:
1. Which version of System Mechanic did you have?
2. When you said that you thought you removed it did you mean that you ran its uninstaller? No offense with the question but I need to ask that because I've come across some people who delete a program without running the uninstaller and it doesn't work that way. It seems as if you have leftover bits and pieces of the program in your registry. I almost exclusively use CCleaner a lot at work and at home to have it scan the registry for leftover files after uninstalling a program. I have at times used iObit's portable uninstaller since it has a deep clean function.
3. When the System Mechanic software was installed, did you ever run its utility to create the Drive Medic bootable CD? If you did, did you ever use that bootable CD to run any tests? I'm just wondering if the burning process and subsequent reading process were successful at that point (if so, please give a date).
4. Did you ever try all of Gary's steps for the upper and lower filters? You and he had quite a correspondence going up until February and I'm not sure if you wrote about what happened after trying those steps.
5. Did you ever run sfc /scannow?
6. Does your drive read all discs with no trouble with the problem confined just to the writing part? I've seen discussions online about these drives using two different beams--one for reading and one for writing. Perhaps one of the beams has failed. Gary and I did raise the possibility of a mechanical drive failure earlier.
7. Did you install SP2 yourself or did your computer already come with SP2 installed?

I hope that your answers will help us to move forward once more.

Hello,

Did you have the system mechanic CD in the drive when you were reading the properties on the System_mechanic.chm file. The chm file is the help file for System Mechanic which is why it is protected and you won't be able to read it. I read your post several times and its sounds like your trying to remove a file from a CD which can't be done.

Hi Bobby,

As you can see, both Gary and I were wondering in so many words in our last two posts if the disc was in the drive. I was just about to post another comment when I saw yours. This is what I was going to write: As you know, DVD-R discs are write once and you would not be successful in trying to write to such a disc that you had already burned. If it was a DVD-RW disc and if it had gotten finalized instead of being left open for adding more data you would run into the same problem of not being able to write to it.

"Happy burning" from this point forward and if you want to help, look at Gary's home page (full of valuable information) and look at the link to send a donation to help out the site. It's right above the 11-tip package link.
