Confused in backing up w/xp pro backup feature

Postby freepims » Fri Aug 06, 2010 9:31 pm

Using windows backup in xp pro.

I have always wonder exactly how and what files I need to backup if my pc crashed and I didn't have a restore disk. I have played around with the idea and the last time I backed up everything and then when it was complete it said the backup failed because I didn't have a floopy available. I was backing up to an external drive. For some reason I cannot get this procedure in my head, about an image file or whatever it is I am trying to grasp.

Can you share how this is done then how to use that backup to reinstall windows and is it true that xp home has a backup system (like pro) that is accessible from your installation cd and can be installed on your xp home from that disk?

Thanks, Trying to get this head on straight.
