- Dell 600m, A17 Bios; XP goes through post on laptop display, begins windows with the flag & streaming blue line, then goes blank; hooking up vga external monitor works & Properties shows external monitor as primary; can't energize the laptop display after this even as 2nd, and can't swap displays in "dualview" as options are grey'ed out. Radeon 9000 drivers are up to date, device manager shows no issues. There must be a start up command/program that switches to external monitor as primary & I can't change via "display properties" commands.

- My Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop and Dell 1100 data projector have connected and worked fine for the past couple of years but since a guy recently connected my laptop to a large-screen TV to run my Powerpoint presentation, I can't view my presentations on both the laptop and my data projector any more. Function+F8 switches to "both laptop and external monitor" but the projector can't locate the analogue signal like it always did. The only way I can use the data projector now is with the laptop screen 'blank' - Any ideas on a fix please?

- Updating from Kaspersky 2010 to 2011 has created chaos on my Dell Inspiron 1520! I tried to use System Restore but that did not work as Windows could not close down. I cannot start in Safe or any other diagnostic mode - the start up stops after Sys32\Drivers\Mup.Sys is loaded. I eventually got the machine running after using a utility to identify all the broken Kaspersky links in registry (all referred to KIS 2010) - nothing else. I was then able to back up my data to an external drive. By this time System Restore had diappeared completely - nothing happens when it is called. Also for some reason I could not print emails from OE so had to paste into Word to print. Now after restart I still have no System Restore and the mouse/touchpad does not work. External mouse does not work either. Probably other things don't work too. I am reluctant to reinstall Windows and lose all my stuff (especially accumulated emails). Any suggestions how to recover mouse control and System Restore please?Chris
- This question applies to xp as well as vista.When removing many of the latest viruses, the internet connection is no longer available. My only cure at the present, is to format all partitions and reinstall the OS. In these instances, they will connect to a network (wired or wireless), and indicate on the icon in the tray that they have both network and internet connectivity. I've tried IE and firefox browsers - router and firewall settings. Other computers on this network have no trouble connecting to the internet thru this modem and router. I most definitely do not know everything (obviously) but I do have 20 years experience repairing pcs. Any answers or ideas would be greatly appreciated as i hate "solving" a problem by formatting a hard drive.Thankx,J.P.

- I cannot get Performance Monitor to tell me disk average wait time. There are no Counters active - how do I activate them. I tried 'diskperf-Y' but that would not work.

Most PC's don't have a floppy drive anymore but if yours does make sure you don't have a floppy disk in the drive. If it doesn't then go to the link below.
