DEALING WITH THE BULLETPROOF PAGE BREAK Remember this tip the next time users call complaining that they "can't seem to delete this one page break." Chances are they've inadvertently activated the Page Break Before feature and don't know how to turn it off.
As you probably know, there are three ways to insert a manual page break. In Normal view, when you press [Ctrl][Enter] or go to Insert | Break | Page Break, you can see where Word inserts a dotted line with the words "Page Break" in plain view.
The third way is perhaps the best way to force a page break at a specific place in your document. When you absolutely, positively want a paragraph to appear at the top of a new page--no matter how the rest of the document is paginated--try this. Go to Format | Paragraph. On the Line And Page Breaks tab, select the Page Break Before check box. The result is a dotted line that doesn't contain a label.
In addition, this page break stays right where it is, even if someone performs a global find and replace to get rid of manual page breaks, which is usually the first step in cleaning up bad pagination. You can find the Manual Page Break option under the Find And Replace dialog box's Special button. But to replace all the Page Break Before breaks, you must go back the way you came--by selecting Format | Paragraph.
