Stop and/or Start a Windows 2000
Service
- Right-click the "My
Computer" icon on the desktop, and choose "Manage."
- The two-paned Computer
Management window will appear, with three main headings in the left-hand
pane (System Tools, Storage, and Service and Applications).
- Expand the Services and
Applications heading (still in the left-hand pane) by clicking on the
"+" next to it.
- Click the Services item under
Services and Applications. This will display all of the installed services
in the right-hand pane.
- Highlight the service to be
stopped or started in the right-hand pane, and click the button under the
title bar to stop or start it. The buttons are similar to the buttons on a
VCR (triangle to start, square to stop).
- Watch the Service Control window
for progress - the window will disappear when the process is completed. For
some services, the window will only flash by, for others the progress bar in
the window will take longer.
