Keep CDs Clean To Prevent The Drive From Getting Dirty!

Gently wipe from the center of the CD toward its outer edge. Be sure to follow a straight line from the inside out instead of using a circular motion. If you need to use some liquid to help remove the debris, use only a little warm water. Never use any type of solvent on the disk because you run the risk of causing permanent damage to the data stored on it.

Delete The Contents Of The Prefetch Folder In Windows XP!

One little-known performance booster we've discovered is to periodically delete the contents of the Prefetch folder. What is the Prefetch folder? The Prefetch folder collects indexes of your most frequently used programs. The index is similar to a database index in that it helps your system access programs faster, whereas a database index helps your system access data quicker. Over time, your Prefetch folder can get bogged down with obsolete links that can degrade performance. We recommend that you open this folder and delete files when your system performance is poor.

All you have to do is click the Start button, and then choose Run. In the Open text box, type the path c:\windows\Prefetch and press [Enter]. You should now see the contents of the Prefetch folder. The entire directory can be deleted by just selecting all the files and deleting them. In addition, you're prompted with a dialog box asking you to confirm your deletion. Click Yes.

Add Destination To "Send To" List In XP!

Can't find the destination you want, such as a network drive or a commonly-used folder? Fortunately, this list is customizable.

Open My Computer and navigate your way to the C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\SendTo folder, where C is the drive on which Windows is installed. Inside the SendTo folder, select File, New, Shortcut and follow along with the wizard: Click Browse, select the shortcut you want to add, click OK, click Next, type a name for the shortcut then click Finish.

Alternatively, you could copy and paste (or drag and drop) the desired shortcut into the Send To window. Either way, the next time you select the Send To command, this new destination appears in the list.

When You Attempt To Install A Program On A Windows XP System You May Receive An Error!

When you attempt to install a program on a Windows XP system that you upgraded from Windows Me or Windows 98 Second Edition (Win98SE), You may receive an error.

The full error that I am referring to is Error 1606. Could not access network location <Common Administrative Tools>.All users\.

To resolve this error, perform the following steps:
1. Start a registry editor (e.g., regedit.exe).

I don't publish the actual hacks in my newsletters! You can get this one at my Customer Support Site! This is a Free Site that I am combining several sites to. All that you have to do is register if you haven't already!

6. Close the registry editor.

HyperTerminal Icon Removal In Windows 98!

In Windows 98, if you want to remove the little icon that blinks from your task bar when the HyperTerminal is running, then follow these steps:

- Open a connection in HyperTerminal
- Select Properties from the File menu
- Click Configure from within the Connect Using area
- Click the Options tab
- Turn off the Display Modem Status in the status control area

You will need to repeat these steps for each HyperTerminal connection.
