Rename A Bunch Of Files In Windows XP!

Windows XP's Explorer lets you rename groups of files, so it's easier to look for the pictures you want. Here's how:

Pick the pictures you want to rename. You can do that by clicking on the first file in the group, holding down the shift key, and clicking on the last. Or you can hold down the Ctrl key and click-click-click on the ones you want. (You can even view the pictures as thumbnails and draw a "lasso" around them, if you're so inclined.)

Right-click on the first picture in the set, and pick Rename.

Type an appropriate name. I just selected pictures Albert413.JPG through Albert429.JPG, right-clicked on the first one, and typed Alberts Fourth Birthday Party.jpg. (Note: if you have Windows set up to show you file name extensions, like ".jpg", it's important to include the ".jpg" less the quotes, so Windows knows you want to keep that part of the file name.)

Hit Enter. Windows re-names the first file Alberts Fourth Birthday Party.jpg. The second one comes up Alberts Fourth Birthday Party (1).jpg. The next one is Alberts Fourth Birthday Party (2).jpg. And so on.

Disable The AutoComplete Feature In Internet Explorer!

Disable the AutoComplete feature! There are several places you'll have to look, depending on the application you're using. Use the following steps to disable AutoComplete in Internet Explorer:

1. Open Internet Explorer.

2. From the Tools menu, select Internet Options.

3. Go to the Content tab and click the AutoComplete button.

4. Choose from a variety of AutoComplete Settings options. You can enable or disable AutoComplete For Web Addresses, Forms, and/or User Names And Passwords On Forms. You can also choose Clear AutoComplete History, which disables all existing entries.

5. Close all dialogs and exit Internet Explorer.

Determining The Current User And Domain In Windows 2000 Pro!

When you're troubleshooting a computer, a quick way to determine both the name of the currently logged-on user and the domain in which the computer resides is to use the net config command. This command enables you to view the status of the Workstation and Server services on a computer. To use it, begin by opening a Command Prompt window. Next, enter net config workstation. You now see a listing that includes the name of the computer, the name of the user currently logged on, and the name of the domain in which the computer resides.
