Using Your
Desktop Cleanup Function In Windows XP!
Desktop Cleanup moves rarely-used icons to a folder to help keep your Desktop
tidy. You can also use the Desktop Cleanup wizard to see when you last used a
Desktop icon.
Right-click the Desktop background and click Properties. Click the Desktop tab
and click Customize Desktop. On the General tab, at the bottom of the window,
look under Desktop cleanup.
To disable periodic reminders, clear the check box. To run the wizard, click
Clean Desktop Now and click Next. A "Date Last Used" is shown for every icon. To
end viewing, click Cancel.
To proceed with Desktop Cleanup, uncheck all icons you wish to keep on your
Desktop, and click Next. Then view the items in the Shortcuts box to confirm
that you want them removed, and click Finish. The wizard moves the selected
shortcuts to a folder named Unused Desktop Shortcuts on your Desktop.
To restore a shortcut to your Desktop, open the folder on the Desktop, Unused
Desktop Shortcuts. A dialog box appears, named Unused Desktop Shortcuts. Drag
the shortcut that you want to the Desktop and close the dialog box.
NOTE: If the dialog box is maximized, click the "Restore Down" button, which is
to the left of the red Close button.
