Customize The
Start Menu In Windows XP!
Right-click the Start button and click Properties. In "Taskbar and Start Menu
Properties", the tab for Start Menu will be selected. At the bottom are two
choices for your Start menu. The first choice enables the new XP view. The
second choice enables the classic (Win 9X/ME) view. Click your Start menu
preference and click the Customize button.
1. If you chose the new XP view, "Customize Start Menu" opens with the General
tab selected. "Small icons" lets you compress the length (height) of the Start
menu. You can increase the number of programs listed on the left pane of the
Start menu. Uncheck the box for Internet and E-mail if you don't want these
items listed.
Click the Advanced tab. This is where you can enable or disable features, or add
or remove items from your Start menu. Be sure to scroll down in the list pane to
see all options. Click OK to close the window. Click OK again to close the
remaining window. Click the Start button to view your changes.
In the left pane of your Start menu, programs that you have run are listed
underneath your user icon. To keep a program in this list, you can pin it.
Right-click a program and click "Pin to Start menu".
2. If you chose the classic view, "Customize Classic Start Menu" opens. This is
where you can enable or disable features, or add or remove items from your Start
menu. Be sure to scroll down in the list pane to see all options. Click OK to
close the window. Click OK again to close the remaining window. Click the Start
button to view your changes.
