Create An MS-DOS Start Up Disk For XP.

An MS-DOS start up disk is useful when you need to access DOS without booting into Windows XP. The procedure is relatively painless, although, it should be noted that the start up disk will only allow you to boot to the MS-DOS 'A' prompt. The start up disk does not contain any other tools.

1. You will first need a blank floppy disk. This should be inserted into your floppy drive.

2. Click the Start button.

3. From the Start menu click My Computer.

4. In the My Computer window Right Click on the Floppy Drive icon.

5. From the drop down menu click Format.

6. In the Format window look for the section marked Format Options.

7. Place a check mark in the box next to the Create an MS-DOS start up disk option.

8. Now click Start.

9. Your floppy disk should now start to format and transfer the necessary start up files.
