Readers Questions.

Q.  I prefer to see the lists of subdirectories and files in "list" or "detail" format rather than as icons of some sort, which seems to be the default setting on my computer.  I always have to go change the way the info is displayed.  How can I get Windows XP to present the data listed as I would like to see it, in non-iconic format?

A.  Open up Windows Explorer and setup any directory the way you would like to see every directory.  This includes, if you select the Details view, selecting which columns of information you want to see and setting each to the desired width.  Also, sort the directory as you would like all the directories to be sorted (personally, I prefer to sort by Type, not Name, but to each their own).  Once you get the directory setup just the way you want it to look, click on the Tools menu and select the "Folder Options..." option.  Click to the View tab.  Click on the "Apply to All Folders" button.  Also, scroll down the "Advanced settings:" list on the View tab and make sure that the "Remember each folder's view settings" option is checked.  Click the Apply button (if it is not grayed out) and then the OK button.
