Q.  My pc takes forever to boot up and I would like to know what is required in the startup menu and how to change the startup menu to use only what I need to speed up. 

A.  Generally speaking, none of the items in the Startup folder on the Start menu are required for Windows to work properly.  It is very possible that one of these startup items is slowing down your boot, but there are a few other places where other startup items can be specified.  The easiest way to see all the programs set to startup with Windows is to use a program that gathers all the information and presents it in a single view.

A program that has this as one of its many features is named WinPatrol.  WinPatrol is a program that helps to keep your computer as safe as possible from viruses and other malicious programs.  In fact, you may want to consider running WinPatrol, even after using the Startup items feature because it is a useful application.  You can find out more about WinPatrol and download it at "http://www.winpatrol.com".
