Readers Questions.IF01727 Q. I've been battling to send faxes since I switched to DSL (via digital/analogue landline) I can't get my fax printer to recognize my PCI soft 92 modem. Any suggestions? I'm sure it's very simple, A. Your DSL signal is probably carried over the same wires as your telephone signal. Most DSL companies provide customers with filters-each with two jacks. Make certain that your fax is cabled with a telephone line and not RJ45 Cat 5 Ethernet cable-to a port on the filter which is made for telephone, not DSL. To test, plug an ordinary phone into the jack you will plug your modem into. You should be able to hear a dial tone and use the phone normally. The DSL port will often have a high pitched noise of some sort which the filter doesn't stop, and may confuse the modem (and by extension, the fax printer). Let me know if you need anything else.
