Q.
Will changing the boot order of my drives make my startup faster?
Should I
do it? Negative consequences? Will I wreck my
computer by doing so? Will it change anything at all except the, um boot order?
I'm thinking of following the instructions here:
http://www.extremetech.com/article2/...1785998,00.asp.
Can you confirm if this is the right way to do it?
A.
It may boot slightly faster if you set the hard drive first since it won't have
to check the other drives for boot ability. The difference will be small but
noticeable.
Changing
the boot order won't hurt anything and you can always change it back.
Those directions are all right, but your system may not be exactly like the one
described. You will need to press whatever key it says at boot to press to enter
BIOS setup. It may be
F2 or something else, usually Del. And your BIOS may not look exactly like
that one, either, or have the same options. You can get directions from your
manual, or just give it a try. It's safe to look around and find the boot order
and to change it. If you somehow make some other changes, you can always use the
default settings to get things going again. I'm sure all will be fine.
It is
important to note that there is never one fix for a question.
What may work for one person might not for the next. Depending on the problem
and the way it is described by the Computer Owner there may be Six different
approaches to a positive outcome. If the first answer I give you to your
question doesn’t work let me know and I will send you another.
Just give me details.
Let me know if you need anything else.
