Q.
Ever since I upgraded my PC to Vista Premium, I frequently receive the following
error message: “IE has encountered a problem and needs to close” I have nearly
the same add-ons that I had in my XP installation but IE would hardly ever
crash. Is there something I can do to fix this problem?
A.
Windows Vista currently has some compatibility issues with a few add-ons. You
can try running the system file checker to see if it can find and replace some
corrupt files that could be casing this issue. Here’s how:
1. Go to Start
2. In the Search box, type
the following: cmd.exe
3. Right click CMD and
select Run as administrator from the resulting menu.
4. Type the following
command in to the command prompt and then press Enter:
sfc /scannow
The system file checker will
now start.
If this method fails to
stabilize Internet Explorer, you will need to disable add-ons one at a time
until the culprit is found.
Let me know if you need anything else.
