Q.
I don't like IE 7 and would like to put IE 6 on instead. Can I do this
with Vista?
A.
Vista does not support IE6. This was done on purpose (As I understand)
because of a lawsuit Microsoft Lost.
You can't remove
IE7 as it's an integral part of Vista, but
you can disable it. If you go to the control panel, and double click on
"default Programs" the last of four options will be "Set Program Accesses and
Computer Defaults". Tell the User Account Control prompt to "continue", then
click the radio-button by the "custom" option, and then hit the expand arrows
to the far left, it'll take you to a bunch of options. The first is "Choose a
default web browser".
If you un-check
the box by Internet Explorer, you will pretty much only be able to access it
through the "run" prompt, if at all, and no third-party programs will open
links in IE.
You can then
install something else, such as Firefox or Opera. You no longer need IE7 to do
updates in Vista. It has an independent program to do that.
