IF02013 Put a Restart or Shutdown Button on the Vista Desktop Windows Vista did improve on Windows XP in many ways. One particular thing that was not improvement was the steps required to shut the computer off or restart. We can avoid all of that by creating a icon on the desktop that will shut down the computer or restart it. On your Desktop, Right-Click then select New then Shortcut
